The long awaited Issue #17 of Waiting2Xhair: Stand and Deliver, (April 2024) has now been launched. I published only one Zine in 2023, because issue #16 sold so well, that I focussed almost my entire efforts on getting copies of them out the door. This is a good thing, as funds are needed to self-publish my first book — my ten year project to capture Brixton, as it morphs into whatever it is to become.
Issue #17 subtitled: Stand and Deliver follows on the heels of that successful Zine. The usual sixty pages, A5, in the new vertical format, my aim is for it to do exactly what it says on the tin. As the front cover depicts, we honour the Windrush Generation, by capturing some of the high profile celebrations that marked the 75th anniversary of the ship’s landing, and those initial first steps in London, right here in Brixton. Those who made the journey from the Caribbean to the mother country, undertook a major task… They definitely stood and delivered, and hence, should never be forgotten.

Issue #16 of Waiting2Xhair is finally out (April 1st 2023), and this edition is a bonefidé classic Streetphoto Zine. Not only that, but it is my first publication set in vertical orientation. Entitled: Snap Decisions: Brixton, the place where we Dwell, this one is a selection of street images snapped mostly along the famous high street, or “the strip”, as I call it. This artsy, photobook style SIXTY pager, is intended to be the precursor, and a sneak preview to my actual book, based around the same topic, and covering the span of ten years, set to be launched sometime in 2024. It will be a hefty tome, (page count yet to be set) and definitely one to watch out for, so in the meantime, you can grab your Zine-time, with this my latest offering…

Issue #15 landed on December 21st, 2022, and is my very first attempt, at an End Of Year Sankofa Zine, or “looking back” edition. Sixty pages of colourful documenting, of some of our most memorable events, that me and my JetBlakInk™ team, have captured over the last twelve months. 2022 turned out to be quite a busy year of filming video, and shooting photography, and it was nice to get back into the flow, following the fallow years since Rona. We’ve captured some real community classics in this issue, some fun moments, as well as some historical ones.
This edition pays tribute to some of the black communities unsung heroes and “sheroes” behind many of these events, that we often take for granted. The documenting of these, brings me a step closer to my promised first book release. I won’t say too much about it at this stage, only that I promised myself that I would publish a book, ten years after getting back into photography. Now that 2023 is on the horizon, and my time of capturing images for this project is virtually up, and so I am looking to publish my first hardback photobook, hopefully, God willing, within the next twelve months, so keep your eyes on the prize…

Issue #14 The Return of Notting Hill Carnival, (published 30th September 2022) is a collaboration between the Nine!… Join the nine members of The Black Photographer’s Union social media group, as we share our experience of shooting at this year’s Carnival. It has been two years since the last street event in Notting Hill, due to the Covid lockdowns, and so we thought it would be extra important to be there to capture it’s return in 2022. Issue #10 JETBLAK2DFUTURE: “So you think you know me?” March 2021. It is all about my photographic journey, starting from when I was just a small boy. It touches on how I got started with cameras, who my inspirations were, and what guided my direction. It covers my early environment, and features some of the things I found interesting to shoot along the way. I think it is my most important edition to date, as it documents my history, and as we all know, history shapes the future. Family, friends, reggae music, soundsystems, and teenage political angst, feature heavily in this edition.
